Our current flock is a mixture of many breeds but they are primarily
Welsummer, Black Penedesenca and Cucoo Marans. We want a laying hen that lays well without aggressive light therapy - a small gap in the winter is allowed. The egg coloration is nearly perfect. I am extremely happy with where we are with our breeding program. Currently nearly every single egg is a consistent dark brown. Several are speckled and frosted. Just beautiful. The picture of the eggs below represents the color eggs we are regularly getting from my hen line, and the roosters they are being bred to should strengthen the dark egg gene even more.  |
